Default Military records question for background investigators...

Long story short, I'm wondering how deep background investigators go into military service records beyond the DD214. If investigators go off only a DD214, I will not offer up additional information that is in my military service record book. If they acquire that material, I obviously must disclose everything ahead of time.

In case you're wondering, I was NJP'd for not getting back to the ship on time one night in Australia. She wasn't worth it.

    Thanks for any input.

They don't go into anything as far as I know. I mean I went to XOI and had to go through that stupid alcohol class when you get an "alcohol related incident" that's in my record but the only thing they are really looking for is proof of service for any veterans preference points and the condition of separation. I'm on a big city dept down south and I'm on the list in a couple other big cities no one has ever said anything to me. Pm me if you need anything else

I've been asked once so far to release my military records. Long story short a FD that canvassed me uses a third party background company, this company asked for me to release my records at the National Archive in St Louis. I told them all I would release was my DD-214, I haven't heard back from them yet so we'll see how it goes.

As far as NJPs go, you should be in the clear. They may ask for it, as it is considered being convicted by the Military Judicial system of a crime. However unless its a court marshal they have no way of knowing unless you give it up. While you're good, for anyone out there who does have a court marshal on record, it will come up if anyone ask for your military records under the Freedom of Information Act.

For what you're asking specifically, you'll be fine.

Mainly we look at the codes on the 214

But we do ask if you have ever been arrested or any court action.
