I am trying to get some correct information and/or some ideas. I was recently told that the ladies auxiliary of my fire department was not covered by workers compensation/VFBL if an incident occurred because they are not considered "firefighters". Our ladies auxiliary was organized as a company of my fire department several decades ago so the members of this vital support organization would be covered in the event of an incident. This information was given to me by the county office in charge of workers compensation. Is this information true and if so how do your departments ensure coverage for their auxiliary members?

Ladies Auxiliary Insurance Coverage - NY

I'm not from NY, but if the County W/C office is telling you no....I'd go with that answer.
My LAux is not covered for W/C. It is possible for the Department to purchase W/C coverage through an insurance company."This thread is being closed as it is off-topic and not related to the fire industry." - Isn't that what the Off Duty forum was for?
