Default Fire hose testing software - barcoding

We are a small volunteer station but considering barcoding all of our hose and recording that info in software. Does anyone have any recommendations of a good software/system for doing this?

How are you going to get the bar code to last?

Not sure how this technology works and wondered about barcodes getting rubbed off as well.

We steer clear of bar-coding because the stickers fall off. We came up with a system to number our hose. For example, 1.75 hose would be 1-001. 2.5" would be 2-001, 4" is 4-001, etc. We mark it on both sides using a brass stencil, and spray ink.

We had a big problem with this a few years back.

My team use [D4H] (http://www.d4h.org/response-team/equipment-management), whats great is the number of options they've provided. They've phone apps. As txgp17 said barcodes can rub off but using D4H we can click and drag items on our laptop or tablets to account for them.

Its worth getting a demo to see how there software works, they even gave me access to an account to show the team.
