Default Training academy in DFW, Texas

Does anybody know if there is a preference over fire academy training courses in the DFW area? I work full time at an ambulance company so I am unable to go to a fire academy full time. I have seen training division and similar online but I have also heard that departments frown on online stuff. If there is anything else anyone would like to recommend or not recommend that would be great.

    Thank you

All career fire departments that I know of have a applicant list they hired off of and those are sent to their fire academy. You first have to be hired to attend any career department academy.

My old department hires new folks and they go through the academy, for 24 weeks or so, regardless of how many pieces of paper you may have received from this school or that school and being a member of this or that fire department.

Like CaptOldTimer said there are departments in DFW that will pay and train you ( Fort Worth, Dallas, Arlington, etc.). As for getting your certs on your own, clearly the way of the traditional academies are ideal but online academies like training division are an option. I have had friends that took the online course as well as the traditional course here in Fort Worth and they are great Firemen. All that being said, their online course will probably be frowned upon as opposed to the traditional course, but all you would have to do is prove that you're a good hand and willing to work.
The best route I would say is to try hard at the larger departments that will pay and train you, and you will be much better off. Keep checking on here and the TCFP website for upcoming tests not only in DFW but also all over the state and check the requirements. Texas has some great departments all over!

    Good Luck buddy

Thanks a lot! That's exactly what I was wondering. I have my paramedic cert and have been working private ems until I get picked up somewhere for experience. Hopefully my private ems will Be history soon! Thanks for the info!
