Default Badge Tab/Holder on station jacket

Hey guys. I have a Navy blue BDU I routinely wear at the station that I am very fond of. I would, however, like to put a badge on it. I have seen many LEO jackets on the market with a vertical badge tab/holder above the left breast, and I would like to sew a replica onto my BDU. They seem to be made for the typical pin style that most custom badges on the market are designed for. What are the dimensions of that little piece of fabric? Is it necessary in order to mount a badge?

Dude.....It's not rocket science. Take jacket to a tailor. Show him/her the badge. Show him/her a photo taken from a Galls (or other fire/cop wacker catalogue) of the badge holder thingee. Tell Tailor "do this." Come back a day later, pay tailor. Done.

Why do you guys wear badges on a duty uniform?? I'd think it would be getting caught on things all the time. Not to mention getting beat up. Sew on patches or embroidery are the way to go.
