    Question smoke diver

does anybody know off a training program called "smoke diver"? It is a week long intense program done in full bunker gear and live smoke. I'd like to go but haven't been able to find any info on it.
    Thanks for your help.

    Cool

The SmokeDiver program is an advanced SCBA - Mask Confidence course. It might vary in length. The SmokeDiver program here is a two day program presented at the Regional/State Fire Schools. Feel free to E-mail with questions. I'd be happy to help.

OUt here in Niagara County, New York Smoke Diver is a 40 hour course that is mask confidence, advanced search and rescue and a little fire supression. It takes place over two weekends and is 25% classroom time and the rest is spent in gear performing physical tasks. I found the class to be physically intensive but not exhausting. All in all I though it was a great class.

    Any questions email me.

Florida State Fire College in Ocala, Florida offers this course. It is a week long and only the most physically and mentally fit are accepted. I believe their program is the original "Smoke Divers" course, its been around since the seventies. In years past folks have died while attempting to complete the course. Due to these deaths, I think the course name and demands/objectives have changed. Look up their site.

My county ,Yates County, offers a smoke divers course similar to the one in niagara county. only ours is 36 hours long two weekends saturday and sunday. The first day is an in deapth familiarization on your scba, and any emergency actions you can take for scba failure. Second and third day is search tactics and rescue drills with some self rescue tactics(firefighter survival) as we call it here. Fourth day is live burn day in an aquired structure, that we have pre-vented and removed or isolated all the hazards we find. Then we light them up.
Its a phisicaly demanding course. The last one we sent two to the hospital for exaustion and three others sat out for a while for heat stress.

    BIG AL:

CHECK OUT MARYLAND FIRE AND RESCUE INSTITUTES WEB SITE FOR THEIR MONTHLY CLASS OFFERING. THEY ORIGINALLY OFFERED A SMOKE DIVERS SCHOOL, WHICH HAS NOW CHANGED TO A BREATHING APPARATUS SPECIALIST SCHOOL. THIS CLASS LAST FOR 5 DAYS AND IS QUITE DEMANDING BOTH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY. EXCELLENT INSTRUCTORS AND FACILITIES. AND YOU COULD ARRANGE TO STAY AT A LOCAL FIRE STATION AND LEARN MORE.
