Mutts abound in the fire service...consider this from the news page of Firehouse.com (the title of the story is MA budget hampers training, it is a typo, because it is about the Knoxville Tennessee Fire Department.)
Unlike Chattanooga, Knoxville doesn't offer additional pay to training officers, who lose opportunities for overtime hours and working extra jobs that front-line firefighters enjoy. Coppinger (Chief of the Chattanooga FD) said each training officer is rewarded with a salary equal to captain's pay.
Knoxville Fire Chief Gene Hamlin doesn't agree with that policy.
"I don't feel that's warranted," Hamlin said. "They've got a job to do just like all the rest of us. They're not risking their lives like other firefighters."
Maybe not..but they are responsible for training firefighters so that they can survive a tour of duty and go home. When the "big one" hits in Knoxville, the Training Division will probably be dispatched for manpower...what then, Chief Hamlin?
This is the type of mentality that just screams the word "MUTT!""

Another example of a "Mutt"...
"The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."

LMMFAO!
May God bless all the people and families who have lost
their lives on 9-11-01, to those also lost on Flight 587, and to the rescuers who responded to both.

Mutt= LHS, the7tower, or whatever his name is today. Want proof? Just check out his rantings on the east vs. west thread. To our brothers in the West, we know he doesn't represent you!

I know of an entire city council full of mutts. Used to be the romance capital, by now I think the firefighters are quickly becoming experts at doing everything with nothing. They are already at minimum staffing and more layoffs on the horizon.

Said it before, will say it again, I will not comment on what Von Yessen was like as a FireFighter. Did not work with him to say he was a great or p___-poor FireFighter.
What I will say? I think the Fire Dept would have been better served to dig up the corpse of Maj Gen Fitz-John Porter, the Depts first commish, and put him behind the desk.
Chances are though, he woulda stood up to Rudy, as dead as he is, and tried to help and improve life for his FireFighters, not make a profit off them.Doc DC3<br />ex FDNY (E74)
