I am interested in becomming an EMT. Does anyone know how I should go about starting this process, or who to contact for training? Any info would be great.

First, you will need to join a fire department or ambulance squad because you have to be "sponsored." If you are already a member of one, contact your EMS coordinator for your county for a list of upcoming courses. In my area, the EMS coordinator is part of the County Health Department. In order to register, you'll most likely need to be on departmental insurance, up to date on your shots including Hepatitis B series, and have passed a basic physical. Hope that helps. Good luck!

OR......
Call WCC, talk to them, sign up for the next EMT class. This will cost a few duckets, but who cares!
Also, Call Empress EMS, in Yonkers, (888-965-5040) or (888-9-MEDICS), and talk to either Lynn Ryder-Baumblatt or Director of Operations Jeff Reiley, they will be able to steer you in the right direction (they will tell you to call WCC)
I highly recommend you do some ride time with Empress if you do take the class, and if you wish to persue a career in EMS this is the place in Westchester to do it. I did it for 7 years there before hitting the Big Show, and would not have traded any of it! Decent pay, Union Shop, high call volume, and room to advance.

You can also check with the local hospitals - many run classes. But getting sponsored by a dept. is best.
Good luck!
