You know enough to make Lt. on a dept. of considerable size and I would assume a relatively competitive exam process. So one would assume that your fireground skills are at an acceptable level. The only advise that I could possibly offer is to remember that your crew will make or break you. You get out of a crew exactly what you put into them. Honesty, Loyalty, and Integrity are what seems (imho) to be three of the most under used leadership tools available.

Congratulations on the promotion!
Here's a few things I learned since getting promoted.
Don't ask the troops to do anything you wouldn't do.
Don't be afraid to get dirty at a fire.
Keep an open mind....don't be afraid to ask your personnel for advice.
Listen to both sides of the story before making a decision.
Realize that there will always be someone who is unhappy with the decision that is made.
There are times where you have to "cross the line" from being one of the guys to being the officer...make your your personnel know it's not personal, it's business.
Firefighters: rising to accept the challenge!
