Thread: Silo fires

Can anyone tell me what the term oxygen limiting silo means?
I have read some information on them but I always believed that silos were either sealed or unsealed. Also how do firefighters in the US tell the difference bettween one type of silo to another.
What methods are used to combat fires in 02 limiting silos?

I believe that oxygen limiting silos and sealed silos are one and the same. Here in the US the most common is the AO Smith Harvestore or "Blue Tube" although there are several other makes. The roof construction is most often a good indicator. They represent certain peculiar challenges. Contact the dealers of the silos in your area; the manufacturers should have recommendations on different tactics and preplan and train.
