New Haven, CT firefighters battled a 3 alarm fire in the Fair Haven
section of the city wednesday night. The fire reported to be on the
first floor was well involved on arrival of Engine #10. Engine #10 and
Engine #17 reversed laid out. Truck Company #3 , unable to raise their
aerial ,utilized ground ladders in their ventilation effort. With Engine
#4 and Emergency#1 also on the first alarm an aggressive interior attack
was initiated. Due to the balloon type construction the fire quickly
spread to the upper floors. Car 33,the East Battalion Chief ordered a
second alarm. This brought Engines #8 and #5 and Truck #1 to the scene.
They fire vented out the third floor rear porch area soon after the
arrival of the second alarm at which time a third alarm was transmitted
bringing Engines #6 and #9, Truck #2 and Emergency #3 to the scene. The
fire was bought under control in about an hour. Ten people were left
homeless and one firefighter suffered a minor shoulder injury.
