Danville, IL: Fire destroyed a second-story classroom in an elementary school Monday morning.Firefighters were called to the scene at about 10 a.m. to the city's oldest grade school. Responding units could see thick black smoke several blocks before arriving on the scene. The fire was intially attacked from the outside while other crews prepared to make an interior attack. Extinguishment took about one hour. Seventeen off-duty firefighters were called back to help to fight the fire and man reserve apparatus. There were no injuries. Students and staff had safely evacuated the building by the time fire units arrived.
