(SCRANTON) - A general alarm fire hit West Scranton just after midnight, early Thursday
morning. Four buildings were destroyed by the fire and fifth was heavily damaged. Twenty were left homeless.
On arrival, the Scranton FD found heavy fire and quickly called for a 2nd alarm, under the direction of Chief Harvey Applegate.
SFD maintained a defensive attack, committing nearly the entire department to the inferno into the daylight hours.
The fire is believed to have started in a vacant building and quickly spread the nearby houses.
