Default Fatal Fire in Madison, Wisconsin

Madison Fire Department was dispatched at 10:44 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 1998 for a structure Fire. Enroute to the scene, reports from neighbors that a mother and her two children were in the residence. Upon arrival of Engine Co. No.5, they observed heavy smoke showing and immediately started search & rescue. Companies located a 9 week old, a 2-1/2 old and a mother, approximately 30 years old. All occupants were pulseless and not breathing upon removing them from the residence. CPR immediately started and all transported to local hospitals. The mother was pronounced dead at University Clinics & Hospitals after a unsuccessful resuscitation. The 9 week old is in critical condition at the pediatric intensive care unit at UW and the other child was transported by Med Flight to St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee, WI to under-go treatment in the hyperbaric chamber. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
