Danville, IL firefighters were busy as they had two fires during the past shift. The first fire came in at 1:47 p.m. as companies of the Danville Fire Department were training with the new aerial. Engines 3 and 4 responded from headquarters while Engine 1 responded from their station. Firefighters found fire in the walls and cabinets of a kitchen of a house on the east side of town. The fire spread to the ceiling and attic, causing about $10,000 damage to the home and its contents.
That night firefighters responded to a small fire in a basement apartment in the downtown area. The occupant of the apartment had to be carried out and taken to the local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The fire department was called to the scene at 8:33 p.m. The smoke from the fire found its way through the upper apartments, forcing other residents to leave the building. Damage was estimated at $2,000, mostly from the smoke. Engines 1, 2 and 4 responded to the alarm.
