City of Howell firefighters responded to a report of a working structure, with a child trapped inside. Upon arrival units had a two story residential dwelling with heavy fire on the first floor, and heavy smoke on the second. Firefighters attempted a rescue without success, two firefighters recieved minor burns. There was two brothers home asleep at the time of the fire. The 17yr. old escaped by using a ladder, however his 7yr. old brother was unable to escape and die from inhalation. Total response was 4 engines, 1 ladder, 1 squad and county ALS.
Fire cause is still undetermined at this time.
