Powhatan Fire/Rescue responded to a structure fire at Powhatan Correctional Center, In a sheet metal fabrication shop.

The building, which resides just outside the security perimeter, was a total loss. A preliminary investigation points to an electrical origin.

Security at the facility was at no time compromised.

Soon after Powhatan Fire/Rescue arrived on the scene, assistance from neighboring Goochland county VFD was requested, and an aerial truck and a heavy-duty pumper was dispatched. The Fire took about an hour to an hour and a half to be brought under control.

No serious injuries were reported, and all companies were back in quarters by about 11 PM
