Pt. Pleasant and Sea Breeze firefighters responded on April 22, 1999 at 12:30 P.M. for a report of smoke from a house on Culver Rd. Firefighters from Ridge Culver had just moments earlier received a walk-in to their fire house for smoke from a house in their district. First arriving chiefs found heavy smoke coming from the roof of a single story ranch home. Pt. Pleasants assistant chief established command, declared a working fire, and requested another engine company from Sea Breeze to serve as the F.A.S.T. team. The fire was confined to the kitchen area with heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the house. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. Firefighters from the St. Paul Blvd. Fire District provided a fill-in to Ridge-Culvers fire station during the call. The cause of the fire is believed to be a pot left on the stove. No one was home at the time of the fire. The weather that day was rain/ fog and several people reported seeing "Steam" coming from the roof earlier and assumed it was associated with the weather.
