Ooops..a special environment in the Albany area known as the "pine bush" experienced a large mutual aid brush fire as environmentalists conducting a control burn had it get out-of-control. This area is experiencing its second driest April in recorded weather history. The local news media is having a field day with the logic of a control burn under such conditions. Fire units from City of Albany, many Colonie voluteer departments, units from Guilderland area chased this brush and (unusual for the northeast),crown fire for most of the afternoon, shutting down the NYS Thruway to 1 lane creating terrible traffic problems.
With our weather forecast showing no rain in the forseeable future all fire departments in eastern upstate New York head for a long week of grass and brush fires.
