At 16:45hrs East Orange fire headquarters transmitted a alarm of fire for 176 South Harrison Ave. Upon arrival the first units reported a 4 story brick OMD(150 x 100) with fire on the third and fourth floors. A second alarm was transmitted as multiple reports of people trapped on the fourth floor was reported to the first units arriving. There was extremely a large volume of fire on the third and fourth floors. A general alarm was transmitted by Deputy 1 as it was quite obvious that this fire could not be held with his units. Several area fire departments were called in for mutual aid to the scene as this fire rage out of control for several hours. There were two (2) fire related deaths (1) a four year old boy whom was rescued out of the building in full cardiac arrest (2) a fifty one year old woman whom was also rescued from the building. The fire could be seen from several miles away as area news copters gave live footage to area news during rush hour. There were unconfirmed reports that this fire originated from (1)a blown pilot light in a stove and (2) a electical short that acted as the ignition.
