On 6/14/99 at approx. 17:30 hours units from Baptist Hospital-Osceola, Osceola Fire Dept., Mississippi County Rescue, & Miss. Co. Sheriffs Office responded to a call for a boat collision on the Mississippi River just south of Osceola, Arkansas. On arrival found 3 persons in the water from the collision of a small v-bottom boat & a large houseboat. Victims were being assisted out of the water by the crew of a local harbor tug the "Bill Wepfer". One victim was uninjured, one sustained shoulder injuries during the collision or during his fall from the craft, the third victim was unresponsive on recovery and was pronounced dead by a Deputy Coroner from the Miss. County Coroners office.
All 3 victims and both craft were from the same party, and the victims apparently were attempting to board the larger craft when the collision occurred.

Both craft involved in the collision were recovered by the Miss. Co. Rescue Squad. The 2 surviving victims were transported to BMH-Osceola and are reported in stable condition.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are under investigation by the Mississippi County Sheriffs Office, with the 1 fatality transported for autopsy.
This is the third drowning fatality near this area within a 2 week period.
