Sunflower County, Mississippi firefighters from the towns of Ruleville (Dist 6) and Drew (Dist 7) worked some four hours this morning and afternoon at a major fire in a two-story Ruleville home. Reported at 9:50am, the two-alarm fire gutted the house occupied by a family of three. Firefighters were severely taxed by heat indices near 105 degrees during the noontime hours. In addition to the two companies, the county's Rehab Support Services, the county fire coordinator, chief investigator, and one EMS unit responded. Several firefighters were treated for heat stress, and one of the residents was transported to a local medical facility for heat-related illness.
