FIRE DOES MINOR DAMAGE TO WEST LAS VEGAS APARTMENT

A four year old boy, playing with a lighter, is responsible for a fire in his mother's West Las Vegas apartment this morning. All five of the family members were able to escape without injury. The fire has been ruled accidental.

Firefighters were notified at 9:15PM, Thursday morning of a fire at the VILLIA CAPRI APARTMENTS, 1801 "J" Street (Owens & J). Light smoke was coming from a downstairs apartment of the 2-story apartment building when firefighters arrived on the scene. When firefighters entered the apartment, they found a mattress and some contents burning inside one of the bedrooms. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire and confine it to one bedroom. The bedroom suffered some fire damage, mostly smoke damage, there was light smoke damage in the hallway of the unit. Damage was estimated at $2500.

Fire Investigators determined that a four year old boy, who lives in the apartment, was playing with a lighter and caught his bed on fire. The fire then activated a smoke alarm in the apartment, which alerted his mother. She was able to get her children out of the apartment without injury. The fire was ruled accidental
