At 0532 hours on August 1, 1999 City of Knoxville Fire Department firefighters were called to a working structure fire. This turned out to be anything but a routine "job". This was the home of Dennis McCain, a firefighter assigned to Squad-4, on of the responding companies. McCain and his family were enroute to their vacation destination when the fire ignited. They were notified shorty thereafter. Responding companies were Engines 6, 16, Squad 4, and Car 82. The house was a total loss, the structure was fully involved upon E-6 arrival. The heat from the flames were so intense that the vinyl siding on structures 50 feet away was melted. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the City of Knoxville Fire Dept. Arson Squad.
