On Aug.7 at 1:38 p.m. the Hammond Fire Dept received a call that a child was trapped in a house fire in the 1700 block of East Park St. The first in units arrived at 1:44p.m. to find the wood frame structure totally ingulfed in flames.Entry was made and the firefighters found the 2 year old child body in the bedroom closet.
Investigators learned that the toddlers mother had left him and his 8 year old sister home alone while she was visiting neighbors.The girl looked for her brother before she had to escape herself and ran next door to tell her mother about the fire.
