Two men are lucky to be alive today, after a large mortar truck overturned and landed on top of their small car early this morning on Interstate 15. Another vehicle, a small pickup truck, was also partially crushed by the large truck, the driver of the pickup was also taken to the hospital to be checked out. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue was notified of the accident at 6:46AM which occurred in the two left lanes of Interstate 15, Southbound, just before the Sahara Avenue off ramps. A large mortar truck, carrying a full load of dry mortar (similar to sand to make stucco) was lying on its right side on top of a small Dodge Colt and partially on the rear of a small pickup truck. Firefighters crawled into the wreckage and found two men, in their early 20's pinned inside the small car. Luckily, both of the men were conscious and did not seem to have any serious injuries. The two men, who only spoke Spanish, were both reading a Spanish version of the Bible as firefighters worked to free them from the wreckage. Luckily, they were able to free themselves without the use of any mechanical devices or rescue tools. All three of the victims were taken to UMC Trauma, the complete extent of their injuries were unknown. All three of the men taken to the hospital were talking to Paramedics and were conscious during the entire ordeal.

The accident snarled traffic for over two hours, backing traffic in both directions on I-15 causing a backup for miles and adding to the daily traffic backup each morning.
