FIRE DAMAGES WEST SIDE HOME THIS AFTERNOON

A fire, which started in an upstairs bedroom of a West Side Las Vegas home, caused approximately $15,000 this afternoon. There were no injuries in connection with the incident.

Las Vegas Firefighters were notified of the fire at 3:10PM in a 2-story wood frame house at 923 "D" Street (at W. Washington). Flames were showing from the windows of an upstairs bedroom when units arrived on the scene. Firefighters entered the home and quickly put the fire out. Damage was confined to the upstairs bedroom. Damage was estimated at $15,000.

Fire Investigators were told that one of the three children living in the house, found the bed on fire and ran downstairs and told their parents. When the father returned to the room to put the fire out, he said it was too large and got everyone out of the house. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

LAS VEGAS FIRE INVESTIGATORS ARREST AND CHARGE MAN WITH ARSON

Las Vegas Fire Investigators arrested Arthur Otto Simpson, 32 of Las Vegas and charged him one count- burglary with intent to commit a felony and one count first degree arson. Fire Investigator allege that Simpson forced entry into an apartment at 2805 Wyandotte Street at approximately 5:00AM this morning started a fire on a bed in the apartment. No one was home at the time of the fire. Simpson was seen in the apartment complex just previous to the fire by other residents of the apartment complex. He is known to have made threats against one of the occupants of the apartment where the fire occurred. Simpson was arrested at his home by Fire Investigators and taken to the Clark County Detention Center.
