Two men were injured when their ulta-light plane crashed in the woods
of Culpeper Co. VA. The plane burst into flames upon impact. The two
critically injured occupants self extricated themselves and walked
one-quarter mile to the Rappahannock River where fisherman ran for help.
The rescue effort by Fire and Rescue units from Culpeper and Fauquier
Counties took several hours as the patients had to be extracted from the
wooded area. The patients were flown by the University of Virginia
Pegasus and Fairfax Hospital AirCare helicopters to the University of
Virgina Burn Center. The patients are in critical condition with burns
over 80% of their bodies.
The Virginia State Police and National Transportation Safety Board are
investigating the incident.
