Reading,Pa firefighter seriously injured battling fire in vacant dwelling
11-10-99 : A Reading firefighter was seriously injured battling a fire officials said was set in a vacant duplex building on the city's westside. The firefighter is being treated for head,neck,extremitiy and possible internal injuries at Saint Joseph Medical Center after falling from an interior attic access ladder, through a railing to the 2nd floor landing while checking for fire extension.
At 0942 hours, box 821, W. Windsor and Weiser streets was transmitted for a dwelling fire at 249 W. Douglass street. Responding on the box was E8,9,1,L3,R1,Medic 6, C-3 & 6. Units arrived 2 minutes later and reported smoke showing from the 3rd floor rear of the 3 story vacant duplex. A 1&3/4-inch line was stretched and had the fire involving a room on the 3rd floor under control by 1004 hours. Companies were in the process of overhaul and checking for extension when the firefighter was injured. An additoinal truck company, Snorkel 1, was special called to the scene to assist in removing the injured firefighter from the building. He was transported to the hospital in serious condition.
Damage from the fire is estimated at $10,000, and officials said the fire was set. The other side of the duplex is also vacant.

I know one or two from Reading; hope it's neither of them, but hope injured FF heals fast and completely.
