On Thursday night 11/18/99, the Union Fire Company #1 of Oxford, PA (Station 21) was alerted for a reported working house fire on Barren Road in East Nottingham Township. An engine from the West Grove Fire Company (Stations 12 & 22) and an engine from Cecil County, MD, Rising Sun (Station 8) were also alerted to assist.
Chief 21 arrived and reported heavy fire showing from the first floor of a 2.5 story SFD. The crews from Engine 21-4 placed two 1 3/4" handlines in service and performed an interior fire attack. Ladder 21's crew went to the roof to ventilate. Other arriving units provided manpower for salvage and overhaul. The fire was knocked in about 10 minutes. The Chester County Fire Marshals Office is investigating the blaze, which is believed to be accidental in nature. There were no injuries.
