On Wednesday, 11/24/1999, the Central Bridge FD in Schoharie County, NY, was toned at 14:30 for a barn fire on Route 7 just east of their village. First responding chief 3012 asked immediately for a full station roll from closest neighbor, Schoharie FD. Dispatcher radioed chief enroute described as fully involved. A large mutual aid request for tankers from Esperance, Cobleskill, Gallupville, Middleburgh was first requested to the scene, but eventually a long hose lay to a neighboring pond was established relieving the tanker shuttle. There were immediate exposure concerns but none of the adjacent structures were seriously damaged. There were about 500 bales of hay and a command decision was made to work these over and attempt to put the fire completely out. This took many hours and a callback for additional manpower from many FD's was needed. The barn, as is most always the case, was a total loss. Cause unknown as of this post. Most mutual aid released at 20:00, Central Bridge FD back in at 21:30. No FF injuries.
