Philadelphia Pa- 12-1-99
In the past two days, two separate 1- alarm fires have claimed 4 lives.
The first fire occurred on 11-30-99, at 750AM when a full box was struck for an apartment at 3000 Richmond St. First arriving companies found heavy fire conditions in a 3 story dwelling used as a boarding house. When the fire was under control 3 adult victims were found on the 2nd and 3rd floor, and a 4th person was taken to Temple University Burn Center with severe burns. Two off- duty police sgts. also were credited with helping rescue a male who was trapped in the rear of the property. The fire started on the 1st floor by careless smoking.
On 12-1-99, a small fire in a rowhouse in the 3000 Potter st also claimed another adult victim.
This brings the total number of fire deaths in Philadelphia this year to 38 compared to 46 in 1998.
