Good evening,

This is District One Fire Chief Gary Scott reporting on a one-alarm fire which occurred on 12/25/99 (Christmas evening) at approximately 11:35 p.m. Fire companies were dispatched to a reported residential building fire at 2810 Maryland Avenue, which is located in Lower Price Hill community of the city.

Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed fire and smoke showing from a two-story residential structure. An interior attack on the fire was initiated, along with a primary search of the entire building. The aggressive action taken by first-in companies quickly brought the fire under control. A primary search confirmed all occupants were out of the building. However, two cats were rescued from the second floor by fire personnel. One of the two cats appeared to suffer no ill-effects from the fire. Unfortunately, the other cat initially showed no signs of life. Firefighters quickly went to work attempting to revitalize this poor little cat.

Shortly thereafter, signs of life started to appear within its lifeless body. Soon after that the cat was breathing on its own. This was a nice ending the incident as well as the end of another Christmas Day.

A fire investigator was called to the scene to assist in the determination as to the cause of the fire. The cause of the fire is listed as electrical malfunction. The fire loss
was estimated at $5,000.

There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters. As for the two cats, I would venture to say they will both be around for Christmas Day 2000.

There were 25 firefighters utilized at this incident. they were on the scene for approximately one hour and 30 minutes. ************************************************** ** Fredrick A. Prather
