The Lowell Fire Department (Massachusetts) has an ongoing hazmat incident in the Belvedere section of the city. The incident is at the Route 38 and Route 110 rotary, along the Merrimack River. A gasoline tanker rolled over and is leaking into the storm drains. Two engine companies have been special called for foam operations; The Massport/Logan Airport and Nashua (NH) FD ARFF units are in on mutual aid, along with the activation of HazMat District 6. They are conducting extended operations.
Updates from East Coast Paging Systems at 10:26 PM stated that the product has reached the Merrimack River, operations are expected to last through the night. The incident went to third alarm at 10:42 PM with numerous agencies responding.
