Reading,Pa warehouse fire
013099 : At 1040 hours phone box 158, Arlington St. and Orrton Ave. was transmitted for a warehouse fire in the area of Orrton Ave and Crestmont St. in the city's Oakbrook section. While units were enroute, dispatchers recieved additional calls reporting the fire at 301-05 Orrton Ave which carries phantom box 2193 for the address. At 1042 an additional engine and truck company were dispatched to fill out the box.
E14 arrived at 1044 hours and reported "smoke showing" from a 1&1/2 story block long warehouse, with the sprinkler system in operation. Units forced entry and found a fire involving a large industrial boiler which mixes oil to make an adhesive. The fire had spread to nearby equipment but was contained by the sprinkler system. Companies used 1&3/4-inch lines to extinguish the remaining fire bringing it under control at 1123 hours. Companies were on scene overhauling and venting smoke for an additional hour. Damage to the building and equipment was estimated at $100,000. Officials say the fire started when the boiler unit overheated and ignited . Units assigned to the box : E14,5,3,L1,R1,Medic3, C2, & 6.
