HVFD FINAL STOP OF NATIONAL SQUAD 51 TOUR TO SMITHSONIAN

"EMERGENCY! Fest" To Feature Cast and Memorabilia

The Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department, located just a few miles from our nation's capital, is pleased to announce a major public event featuring Squad 51 and cast members from the groundbreaking television show "EMERGENCY!"

The Monday, May 15th festivity will be the last stop of the national Squad 51 tour from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. Actors Randolph Mantooth (who played FF/Paramedic John Gage), Kevin Tighe (FF/Paramedic Roy DeSoto) and Robert Fuller (Dr. Kelly Bracket) are tentatively scheduled to appear along with a recently refurbished Squad 51. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and last throughout the afternoon.

Local officials and more EMERGENCY! cast members will likely also attend in what promises to be a day-long "EMERGENCY! Fest" that is expected to draw thousands of emergency service professionals and everyday citizens from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

The objective of the nationwide tour -- dubbed Project 51 -- is to share with the public, on the 30th anniversary of paramedics in North America, the history of this lifesaving regimen, and the role that the television series "EMERGENCY!" played in advancing EMS by ten years. An emergency room on wheels, manned by paramedics, has changed the face of health care forever, and Project 51 will document how it all came about. Stops are also planned in Chicago, New York, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Memorabilia from "EMERGENCY!" will be accepted into the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History on Tuesday, May 16.

Many of America's firefighters and paramedics grew up watching EMERGENCY! and were inspired to join the emergency services as a direct result. The HVFD hosted one of the first EMERGENCY! fan sites on the Internet.

The event will also include a display of regional Fire, Rescue and EMS vehicles. Interested departments should use the HVFD contact information listed below.

Leading fire service web community Firehouse.Com (http://www.Firehouse.Com) will be a major sponsor of the HVFD event, as well as the entire Squad 51 Tour across the country.

The HVFD is located in Prince George's County, MD, off Queens Chapel Road, one mile west of U.S. Route 1 and 2 miles from the University of Maryland at College Park. Ample parking will be available as well as transportation via the adjacent Prince George's Plaza Metrorail station. The firehouse is about 3 miles from Washington, D.C. and 35 miles from Baltimore.

For our members, the HVFD will be hosting a full weekend of events beginning with attendance at a special Orioles game on Thursday, May 11 in Baltimore against the Boston Red Sox where actors from the show are scheduled to throw out the first pitch.

Hotel and related information will be posted online as soon as it becomes available at one of the two sites listed below within two weeks. The HVFD is working on securing special reduced rates for those attending the event.

Check http://www.hyattsvillevfd.org or http://www.Emergency51.Com for the latest updates beginning next week. Additional information, including a full schedule for the day, will be sent as soon as it becomes available.
