022200: Police officers responding to a burglar alarm at a closed ice cream palor in the city's outlet district arrived to discover smoke coming from the building. Police officers notified fire communictaions who at 2007 hours transmitted box 63, 10th & Douglass streets for a fire at 808 N. 9th street. Companies arrived at 2009 hours and reported smoke showing from the 2 story E.O.R. commercial building housing a Dairy Queen ice cream parlor on the 1st floor with offices above. Companies made entry and discovered a fire in the basement which was contained with 1&3/4-inch handlines. The fire was brought under control at 2045 hours. 1 firefighter was treated at the scene for minor injuries and damage to the building was estimated at $20,000. Officials say the fire was intentionally set in the basement and found that the sprinkler system in the basement was turned off prior to the fire and a door was left open. An investigation is continuing. Companies assigned : E9,11,1,L3,R1,Medic 6 & C4.
***While all hands were operating at this box, other city units were kept busy, responding to 2 other reported structure fires at Front & Buttonwood streets and the 200 block of Moss street. Both of those fires were minor and handled by the 1st in engine and truck companies.**
