Sunflower County, MS firefighters were called into action following a much appreciated respite in activity over the past few weeks. Around 2:00pm, District 3-Moorhead, District 2-Inverness, and Battalion 1 firefighters were dispatched to a report of two structures on fire in the town of Moorhead. First arriving Moorhead firefighters indeed found two small buildings on fire, one totally involved and the other just starting to burn on one side. Prompt information provided by local law enforcement officials indicated both structures were not occupied, and were a frequent haven for drug activities. Command officers in agreement with city officials determined that allowing the second structure to burn would be the best route of action. District 2 firefighters were released while District 3 personnel monitored and controlled the scene for approximately an hour and a half. Moorhead Police held and questioned at least one suspect believed to have set the fire.
