Freehold Township, NJ April 4th
A house valued a $450,000 and its contents were destroyed in a house fire. The first call to Freehold Independent Fire Co. #1 came at 12:05 pm. The first truck arrive 5 minuteslater and reported a fully involved structure fire. Units were on scene until late in the evening knocking down hot spots.
Initial invetiagtion indicated the fire was started by the owner's elderly mother who was smoking in bed. The woman tried to put the fire out before calling 911. The fire was also fueled by oxygen tanks in the mother's bedroom. This is the third fire in Monmouth county in the past year that was cuased by smoking in bed. One of the previous two fire was a fatal fire.
