During the weekend of April 8, 2000 over 110,000 gallons of #6 fuel oil spilled from a pipeline at a PEPCO power plant into the Patuxant River in Prince George's County Maryland near its border with Charles County Maryland. Emergency crews worked to contain the spill as it threatened protected wetlands in Maryland as well as the Chesepeak Bay. Environmental Crews from the Washington Metropolitan Area are assisting the EPA with this disaster.
As of 4/15/00 there are over 28 Hazardous Materials Companies working around the clock on over 25 miles of shoreline that has now affected Prince George's County, Charles County and St. Mary's County Maryland.
