On 4/30/00
at 19:30pm The 150+ acre forest fire reported previously in the fire wire, was fully extinguished. A crew of more than 300 volunteers, and hotshots cut a fireline around the blaze through-out saturday night, all day sunday, and most of today(5/1). During the day on sunday, hot ash and embers from the Kahill Mt. fire were carried across the valley to near by Kellogg Mt. Where another forest fire began, that was contained by members of the F.S.S. Also forest fires were reported in the near by town of New Albany, and On the High Knob Overlook, these were quickly contained by volunteers, and citizens of the community. Fires were also reported in Mehoopany, Wyoming Co. and Silver Lake, Tioga Co. Firefighting efforts were made nearly impossible due to the 12 mile hike to the fire from the nearest road, with-out availablity of a smoke jump crew for 2 days.

and Wellsboro Forest Fire Crew, Hazelton, Hillsgrove, Ricketts, and North Mountain Forest Fire Crews. Studies show Pennsylvania will have a record number of Forest fires over the next 10 years, and this is due to the Gypsie Moth population. Thats all, and until next time!
