These 2 fires occurred in Reading,Pa on June 7th.:
----At 0517 hours box 45, 11th & Elm streets was transmitted for a dwelling fire at 320 N. 11th street. Companies arrived at 0519 and reported a 2&1/2 story M.O.R. dwelling with fire showing 2nd floor. Companies brought the fire involving the 2nd floor under control with 2, 1&3/4-inch lines by 0544 hours. No injuries were reported in the fire which officials say was started by an electrical extension cord. Damage was estimated at $12,000. Companies assigned: E1,13,9,3(FAST company),L2,L3,R1,Medic1, C3 & 6.
------At 1916 hours box 52, 9th & Marion streets was transmitted for a dwelling fire at 1237 N. 9th street. 1st due E9 & L3 arrived at 1916 hours from their station half a block away and reported smoke showing from the cockloft area of about 3, 2&1/2 story M.O.R. dwellings. Companies stretched lines and laddered the building as fire became visible on the 2nd floor of 2 buildings. A 2nd alarm was struck at 1924 hours as smoke was now pushing from the cockloft and roofs of 6 dwellings. Additional lines were stretched as all hands were working in the 6 row homes. A 3rd alarm was struck at 1945 hours. Companies used numerous 1&3/4-inch handlines and extensive overhaul to bring the fire under control by 2118 hours. No injuries were reported and 20 people were left homeless by the fire which officials say was caused by an electrical outlet. Damage to the 2nd floors and attics of the 6 homes at 1233 through 1243 N. 9th street is expected to exceed $60,000.
