062100: The arson fires in Reading continue as a two-alarm fire damages 3 homes and leaves 4 people homeless. At 1017 hours, box 353, Front & Greenwich streets was transmitted for a dwelling fire in the 100 block of Hudson street. Companies arrived at 1020 hours to find heavy fire showing from the 2nd floor and attic of a 2&1/2 story vacant M.O.R. dwelling at 154 Hudson streets with fire extending via common cockloft to exposures on either side at 152 & 156 Hudson street. As companies stretched lines and laddered the building, a 2nd alarm was struck at 1029 hours. Companies used numerous 1&3/4-inch handlines to bring the fire in the 3 homes under control by 1130 hours. Units remained on the scene performing extensive overhaul. One firefighter was treated for a minor injury at the scene. Damage was estimated at $30,000 and 4 people from a dwelling on the exposure 2 side were left homeless. Officials say the fire was deliberately set--152 & 154 Hudson street were vacant from a previous fire in 1999.
