On Wednesday, June 28 at 2214 hrs., Berks County Communications dispatched companies 42 (Cedar Top), 57 (Mohnton) and 67 (Shillington) to 211 Pennwyn Place in the village of Pennwyn, Cumru Twp. for a possible structure fire. 57-10 (Mohnton Chief) arrived first, reporting smoke showing and declaring a working fire. First arriving apparatus saw fire venting from third floor windows on sides 3 & 4.

Simultaneuos interior attack, vent and exposure control were initiated, followed closely by salvage on the lower floors of the fire building. The first alarm was struck by 42-10 (CT Chief) for manpower and RIT shortly thereafter, bringing companies 56 (Gouglersville) and Squad 680 (Southern Berks Regional EMS), with companies 70 (Grill) and 69 (Kenhorst) placed on standby for coverage. Fire was largely contained in the third floor of the fire building. All companies were released from the scene by 2400 and all apparatus was in service and at station by 0035.

215 Pennwyn Place, the actual address of the fire, sustained heavy fire damage on the third floor and smoke and water damage throughout. An attached exposure sustained minor damage due to extension that was quickly stopped. An official statement of cause has not been released as of this posting.
