FDJC Knocks Down (2) Early Working Fires
Jersey City, NJ (Hudson) July 7, 2000 After receiving the news from the state of NJ that the FDJC must reduce it's work force by 55 firefighters over the next two years or lose funding to the city. FDJC move on and showed why this is one of the best urban Fire Departments. At 0752hrs Eng 10 received a verbal from area residents that a house on the corner of Communipaw & Haliday was on fire.( Eng 10 & Trk 12's quarters are located on Haliday about 2 doors east of Communipaw) Eng 10 notified FDJC Fire Dispatched and responded to the corner to find a 3 sty frm with fire on the 2nd flr and people trapped on the 3rd flr. Box 650 was transmitted along with W/F units (3 Eng, 2Trks, Dep 1, MSU, Res1cue , and Squad 4) Eng 10 requested Trk 12 to the front of the fire building to make rescues. Members of Eng 10 entered the building to make rescues and as a result 4 FF's & 2 Civilians were taken to the hospital for various injuries related to the fire. A second alarm was not called due to the fire was quickly knocked down and this fire was under control at 8:15 hrs.
Just as the units were returning from Box 650, FDJC Fire Dispatch transmitted Box 959 at 0853 hrs for a fire reported at 226 Clerk St near Cateret St, Units arriving found a 2 sty frm with fire on the 2nd flr and cockloft, this fire was quickly knocked down and was declared under control at 0907 hrs.
