These fires occurred in Reading over the past few days:
----071300: At 2153 hours box 353, Front & Greenwich streets was transmitted for a reported garage fire to the rear of the 500 block of N. Front street. Companies arrived at 2156 hours to find a 1 story garage to the rear of 532 N. Front street fully involved and spreading to an attached similar exposure. Companies quickly knocked down the fire with a 1&3/4-inch line, bringing it under control by 2203 hours. No injuries were reported and damage was estimated at $3500. Officials have ruled the fire arson. Companies assigned: E11,3,1,L1,Sn1,R1,Medic1, C1 & 6, E9-safety company.
----071500: At 0336 hours box 723, 2nd & Elm streets was transmitted for a dwelling fire at 226 Pear street. Companies arrived at 0339 hours to find a 2&1/2 story M.O.R. dwelling with fire throughout the 1st floor. Companies advanced 2- 1&3/4-inch lines bringing the fire under control at 0414 hours. No injuries were reported and damage was estimated at $10,000. Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire. Companies assigned: E3,1,5,L1,Sn1,R1,Medic6, C2 & 8, E11-safety company.
----071700: At 1525 hours, an engine and truck company were dispatched to an alarm system activation at the Market Square apartments at 801 Penn street. Companies arrived at 1526 to find light smoke inside the 4 story, L shaped 75x150 apartment building and requested the box be filled out. At 1528 hours box 4, 8th & Penn streets was transmitted.
Companies evacuated the building and after an extended search for the origin of the smoke,discovered a smoldering fire inside the ceiling of a 1st floor foyer.The fire was brought under control at 1700 hours after extensive overhaul. No injuries were reported and a damage estimate was unavailable. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire. Companies assigned: Still alarm- E1,Sn1 & C6. Box alarm- E3,5,L1,R1,Medic4, C1, E13-safety company
