Good afternoon,

This is Acting District Chief Richard Ransick reporting on a one-alarm fire
that occurred today, 8/1/00 at 11:30 a.m. The fire happened at 1247 State
Avenue in Lower Price Hill.

On arrival, fire companies found moderate smoke showing from the first floor
and roof area of a one-story manufacturing building. Fire crews quickly
advanced hose lines to the hopper area and roof; due to aggressive actions,
the fire was extinguished within 10 minutes.

The fire started when a welder was making repairs to a hopper; sparks from
his welding torch ignited graphite dust residue causing the fire.
Twenty-eight firefighters responded with no injuries to civilians or
firefighters. Damage is estimated at $5,000.
