Lightning Strikes School
OYSTER BAY COVE ó At about 2:45 p.m. on August 14, lightning hit the Harmony Heights School on Sandy Hill Road. At 3:25 p.m., Rosemarie Oliver at the Harmony Heights Administration Office told News12.com "The fire is currently contained. It was on the roof of the residence building, which was unoccupied, thank goodness. Absolutely no one was hurt." She continued, "About 35 girls are here for the summer session and they were in the school building, not the residence. Who would have expected a storm like this, especially on the next to last day of school?"
Six fire companies were there: Oyster Bay Fire Co. #1,Atlantic Steamer Fire Co. #1, Bayville, Cold Spring Harbor, East Norwich, and Syosset. Oliver added, "There doesn't appear to be too much damage. We hope the girls will be able to use the residence this evening. The Fire Marshall will determine when the building is safe and he's there now." Harmony Heights is a private high school for girls located in two beautiful old mansions in Oyster Bay Cove.
