These fires occurred in Reading over the past few days:
----091400: At 1728 hours box 317, 6th & Walnut streets was transmitted for a reported apartment building fire at 536 Walnut street after an occupant called 9-1-1 and stated he had set the building on fire. Companies arrived at 1731 hours to find smoke showing from the upper floors of the 3 story M.O.R. building. Companies stretched a 1&3/4-inch line and quickly extinguished fires on the 2nd floor and also removed the disgruntled resident from the building, bringing the incident under control by 1744 hours.
The occupant was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and subsequently arrested and charged with arson and related offenses. The occupant became angry at family members and poured flammable liquid in different areas of his apartment before igniting it. A damage estimate was unavailable and the fire displaced 2 other residents. Companies assigned: E1,3,5,L1,Sn1,R2,Medic4, C1,2, & 9, E11-safety company.
----091800: AT 1721 hours box 63, 10th & Douglass streets was transmitted for a dwelling fire at 929 Douglass street. Companies arrived at 1723 hours to find heavy smoke showing from the upper floors of a 3 story S.F.D. (single family dwelling). Companies used 1&3/4-inch lines to bring the fire involving the 3rd floor under control by 1736 hours. No injuries were reported in the fire which left 4 people homeless. A damage estimate was unavailable in the fire which was caused by a child playing with a lighter. Companies assigned: E9,1,11,L3,R1,Medic1, C1 & 8, E13-safety company.
----091900: At 1502 hours box 2187 was transmitted for a reported fire at the Reading Body Works manufacturing plant at 201 Hancock boulevard. Companies arrived at 1505 hours to find smoke showing from a 2 story industrial building on the grounds of the plant. Companies used 2-1&3/4-inch lines to assist the plant fire brigade in extinguishing the fire which began in piles of cardboard and extended to the building. The fire was placed under control at 1532 hours. No injuries were reported and a damage estimate was unavailable. Companies assigned: E14,5,3,13,Sn1,L3,Medic1, C1 & 8.
