g'day from the olympic city, things have been busy here as of late and not just because the olympics are in town.THERE HAS BEEN NO RAIN FOR SO LONG WITH THE WINTER BEING THE DRIEST IN 100 YEARS THAT THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS HAS SEEN NUMEROUS GRASS/BRUSH FIRES AROUND THE CITY.THE OLYMPICS THEMSELVES HAVE GENERATED AROUND 30 INCIDENTS A DAY FOR THE FIRE SERVICE WITH AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARMS ,RUBBISH FIRES ,SMELLS OF SMOKE ETC AT THE NURMOUS VENUES.BUT THE MAIN THING KEEPING COMPANIES OF THE CITY BUSY ARE THE GRASS/BRUSH FIRES.ON TUESDAY THERE WAS A TOTAL FIRE BAN DECLARED (RED FLAG DAY)WITH 2 MAJOR FIRES BREAKING OUT 0NE NEEDING 20 COMPANIES AND 2 HELICOPTERS TO CONTROLTHE OTHER REQ 18 COMPANIES AND 2 HELICOPTERS TO CONTROL.OVER 500 ALARMS WHERE RESPONDED TO BY COMPANIES ON THE DAY WITH MANY UNITS IN THE WESTERN AND SOUTH WESTERN SUBERBS NOT GETTING BACK TO THERE STATION HOUSE ALL DAY.FLYER 1 IN DOWNTOWN SYDNEY WAS AS USUAL THE BUSIEST ENGINE COMPANY WITH 21 RUNS FOR THE DAY WITH OTHER BUSY COMPANIES BEING
PUMP 8----17 RUNS
PUMP88----17
PUMP 92---16
PUMP 87---15
PUMP 79---15
PUMP 78---15
PUMP 77---15
PUMP 102--14
WITH MANY OTHER ENGINE COMPANIES NOT FAR BEHIND,EVEN THE CITIES QUIEST ENGINE PUMP 60 HAD 4 RUNS.(THE GUYS ASSIGNED THERE WOULD HAVE NOT KNOWN WHAT HIT THEM).NO RAIN IS FORECAST IN THE NEAR FUTURE,BUT I SUPPOSE THATS A GOOD THING WITH THE OLYMPICS BEING ONAND ESP AS I'M GOING TO THE TRACK AND FIELD EVENT ON SATURDAY,IT CAN WAIT TO RAIN UNTILL AFTER THEN.
